Our Quartet QUANTRO

A new quartet formed in January 2007, called Quantro, and we are now hard at work getting some repertoire to singout standard. We are: Helen who sings Lead, Jenny on Baritone, Lin on Bass and Jean singing Tenor. As you can see from the photograph, Jenny is the mad one!! ( and although it doesn’t show as much on the photo, Jean is the bossy one!) We all have a great time during our practise nights, even though we arrive worn out after a day’s work, we find it hard to draw the evening to a close and go home, as we are having so much fun.

Our first official singout was in February 2007, on Trish Adudu’s show on our local Coventry and Warwickshire radio to promote The Belles  “Singing Workshop”.   There is nothing like plunging in at the deep end and singing live on air to a few thousand people.

Our next escapade in May took us to Nuneaton Arts and Music festival to sing in two of their classes, the Barbershop Class, and the Small Group class.  We did win both and were awarded a lovely silver platter to take home with us, plus an invite to sing on their Gala show in June,  unfortunately we weren’t able to take them up on this as holidays intervened.

We came seventh place in our first LABBS competition in October 2007, so much preparation is afoot to get ready to compete in the National LABBS competition in October 2008, and to improve our ranking.

Two weeks later in November we took Newcastle by storm ( well it was extremely windy) when we auditioned for Sweet Adelines during one of their education weekends at The Sage Centre, we had a great time singing, with Rumours coaching and performing all weekend.

A Jazz Night in a Hinckley Pub was the highlight of February this year and they have invited us back to entertain them again in May

May also takes us back to Nuneaton Arts and Music Festival to see if we can get onto their Gala show this year.

We will be at a mock competition at the LABBS Quartet weekend in Long Eaton in June 2008, so as you can see life is hectic but fun. I highly recommend this hobby so if anyone has time on their hands get in touch with three others and give quarteting a go, its very satisfying to hold your own part within the beautiful harmony that is Barbershop.
